Conferences
Conferences the GBCA has participated in.
GBCA members regularly attend and participate in medical conferences and meetings each year so that we can stay abreast of current research, become knowledgeable in areas relevant to Georgetown investigators, meet key researchers and identify opportunities for advocate involvement. These include the Annual Meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Association of Cancer Research Annual Meeting, San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium, and National Breast Cancer Coalition Annual Leadership Summit.
In 2016, Sherri was nominated by GBCA to work with Georgetown investigator Hillary Stires, PhD on her grant related to Invasive Lobular Breast Cancer. Sherri was pleased to attend the 1st International Invasive Lobular Breast Cancer Symposium in Pittsburgh, PA with Dr. Stires and her mentor, Dr. Rebecca Riggins.
In 2016, Naomi attended the AACR annual meeting In New Orleans, LA as part of the Scientist <-> Survivor Program and was honored to present GBCA’s poster at the meeting.
Five GBCA members attended SABCS this year. Shelley presented our poster on Friday night and she and Debbie were honored to be hosted by the Alamo Breast Cancer Foundation (ABCF) as a part of their advocacy scholarship program.
Also, watch our very own Shelley and Debbie interview oncologists Dr. Debu Tripathy, MD and Dr. Virginia Kaklamani, MD as part of the ABCF Advocate Chat series!
Thanks, in part, to support from a generous donor, five GBCA members attended the annual meeting of the American Association of Cancer Research in Philadelphia. They were joined at their poster session by Ayesha Shajahan-Haq, PhD, GBCA Scientific Advisor, and Robert Clark, PhD, DSc, Breast Cancer Program Director at Georgetown-Lombardi. Jamie was honored to be at the conference as part of AACR’s Scientist<-> Survivor Program for cancer advocates.
