Initially I became an advocate as a way for me to come to terms with my own breast cancer experience. I subsequently learned that the life-saving treatment I received started from a grant by the Department of Defense Breast Cancer Research Program that requires the participation of advocates and promotes innovative, high impact research. This opened my eyes to how effective research can change the course of this disease and the lives of so many people and I want to be a part of that, helping to direct research so that it is relevant and impactful.

I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008, shortly before my 51st birthday. I completed treatment a little over one year later.

I am a graduate of the National Breast Cancer Coalition’s Project LEAD Program. I also attended the American Association for Cancer Research Annual Conference and Mini Med School in 2015.  In 2020 I became a Consumer Reviewer for the Department of Defense Breast Cancer Research Program and a Co-Team Leader for the National Breast Cancer Coalition.  I am particularly interested in having input on the direction of breast cancer research and serving as a mentor to those who are newly diagnosed. I have been a member of GBCA since 2011.

I retired from the practice of law in 2015. I have been a breast cancer research advocate since 2011. In 1978, I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Pittsburgh and went on to obtain my law degree from American University Washington College of Law and a Masters in Law in Taxation from Georgetown University.
